Before summer recedes entirely from the sight in our rear-view mirrors, we want to recognize some of the grand events that marked summer here in Romania. We’re referring to three exciting music festivals: Untold, Electric Castle and Summerwell. Each festival was held at a unique location and offered unique performers and performance venues.
Untold pulled in over 90,000 participants at its location in Cluj-Napoca. Cluj Arena, the festival’s main venue, hosted 62,000 people, during the performance of Armin van Buuren, one of the most eagerly awaited shows of the festival, reported Business Review in its report about the festival. The attendance at the event, which was only established in 2015, and its growth in popularity has been phenomenal.
Electric Castle was held in July at Bontida Castle. This edition of the festival, its fifth, provided another rousing success. And in addition to the music offerings, light shows, DIY barbeques, and carnival rides added extra value. The crowds and performers both contributed to a lively experience.
Summerwell offered its seventh edition this August near Bucharest on Stirbey Domain in Buftea. Many consider this festival the most important alternative music festival held in Romania. With a line-up that included Interpol, Editors, Birdy, Glass Animals, METRONOMY, The Kills, Nothing But Thieves, HONNE, Oh Wonder & ROOSEVELT, The Bloody Beetroots, the festival drew large and enthusiastic crowds.
Now as we write this, the cooler temperatures of autumn have arrived, and summer has passed, but before it went, it offered us some fine memories, and we have some well-established traditions that we can look forward to next summer.
