40,000 people attended Depeche Mode’s 3rd concert in Romania at Cluj Arena and each and every one of them enjoyed every second of it.
On the three huge screens which decorated the 50 meters wide and 20 meters deep scene, it ran projections prepared by the famous photographer Anton Corbijn, a close friend of the band, and all appreciate the spectacular visual effects of Depeche Mode tours.
The major turning point of the 2 hours and a half concert was the moment when David Gahan kissed Martin Gore, after everybody sang „Happy Birthday!” to him. 600 roses were brought to the concert by fans and hundreds of sheets that read “Happy Birthday, Martin!” When Martin was alone in the center of the solos – “A Question of Lust” and “Home”, thousands of mobile phone flashlights lit the Cluj Arena, the fans accompanied him and sang for about two minutes the chorus of “Home”. Roses were cast on the stage and he made a bow visibly excited, in front of the fans.
Depeche Mode came for the first time to Cluj during the “Global Spirit” tour and the show in the capital of Transylvania ended the series of concerts dedicated to promoting the latest album.
“Spirit” is Depeche Mode’s 14th studio album and marks the first collaboration with producer James Ford, founder of Simian Mobile Disco, who also worked with artists such as Florence and the Machine and Arctic Monkeys. The album was released both in standard CD and in luxury edition, including five remixes and a photo album by Anton Corbijn.
